Surf tab settings

I bought my X-25 used about 6 months ago. It came with surf tabs but I've never bothered using them. I noticed the tabs have two positions where the rams or actuators can attach. Mine now are set to the shorter position where the tab should deflect more dramatically. What do you all who have played with surf tabs find? Is there a reason to prefer one attachment point to the other?

Attachment is posting upside down for some reason, but you can see what I'm talking about if you do a headstand. Mine is attached in the hole closer to the hull so the tab will deflect further for the same movement in the actuator.
