X-55 Surf only

Hi,
new here but I have search threads before posting, so bare with me.
To keep thread straight lets Focus on X-55 only
We like this Big Platform and HEAD
We have Vehicles to Tow it comfortably

We are coming from non Tow Boat world but love to Surf and Tube..
Everyone is regular Foot that Surfs

NO ONE WAKE BOARDS or really likes it that much

What do we need to do to get the best/easiest SURF wake behind this Model.

Are Surf TABS a Must?
Will Factory Ballasts enough?
We dont' Want BAGS O Water sitting everywhere like our last Boat?
If I need to ADD Ballast where can they go for least impact on Boats storage?
Are there Better years to buy used?
Hull is same on ALL?
Do we need the one with the Computer Screen to add SURF Wake?

The short story here is...My wife can drive the Boat, but does not want to do a Bunch Sh&T to get the boat in and out of Surf Mode, we also just Cruise and TUBE a lot ...

Tell me this IS the BOAT for US ?

thanks
Larry

The 55 is a great surf boat, throws a massive wake. You will need extra ballast to get the best wake from the boat though. The extra ballast shouldn't hurt your storage too much, as you'll only need it on one side, and the 55 has plenty of storage. You should be able to get a great wake with a bag in the rear locker and one along the side, with factory ballast full. Wouldn't hurt to have one up in the bow either. Surf tabs are hit and miss with people, but it send a lot say they don't do much. They certainly can't hurt though, so if you find a unit that has them, it'd be a bonus.

All model years of the 55 have the same hull.

We have , and are selling this week, a 2013 YAMAHA 242 LS,
Surfable for some, not without ballast EVERYWHERE..
Even at that , a very small wake...

Jet wash was a big problem too

What would I need to modify on a stock boat? to make this (SURFING) easier?

Also are any years better than others with regards to engines?
Are some engines more reliable than others?
I am assuming Surfing does not require a bigger engine, and Cruising or Tubing with NO ballasts FULL are fine with ANy engine?

You would only need a few ballast bags and a pump. Quite easy to have them plumbed in too. The bigger the motor, the better IMO. Adding extra weight makes the boat work harder, so more cubes will help fuel consumption.

I would do the tabs for a boat that size, you may be able to go with a little less ballast with the tabs.
