Wheel Chipping Clearcoat

Opinions please. All 4 of the wheels on my boat trailer are chipping their clear coat. What is strange about this, is there is shiny chrome underneath this coating. I spent around an hour chipping at one wheel, but it's just a pain to do especially on all 4 wheels. Is there something I can apply that will remove this coating?

Trying to avoid going replacing, but if I do, will do it during the winter along with some other refurbishments to the trailer. Just want to see if I can salvage these before I go that route. If I do go the replacement route, I will defiantly see what what kind of deal MRmastercraft can do for me.

I picked up some Jasco marine grade paint and epoxy remover. Since it came in a spray can, made it easy to apply. Took each wheel off the trailer and sprayed the paint remover on the wheel and let it sit or about 5-10 minutes. Then rinsed off with water and the majority of that clear coat came right off. Had to go through this process 3 times per wheel to get everything off. Once the wheel was dry, I followed back with some chrome polish. New the wheels shine like brand new.

Before on left. After on right.

That looks great. Be sure to use some paste wax on there to protect the chrome, as the chrome will rust over time.

I am actually no stranger to maintaining this type of wheel. My previous boat (which was in the family for 17 years) had this same type of wheel, and we kept them looking great up till the day I sold it. They did not have this kind of coating on them. We just maintained them with chrome polish and used very fine steel wool to remove any oxidation or rust that would develop.
