It might be that it malfunctioned at some point. I can attest to this as my boat shows 283 hours on the meter but it has not worked since about the third year. I will say I feel that there are much better things to look at than hours on a boat.

When you're spending that kind of $, you're obliged to, Imo. Maybe others would disagree. The author of the post above this doesn't seem to mind.

And who knows, maybe it did break... Maybe he's not the original owner and the last guy replaced it. Who knows.

All I know is if I was buying a boat, I would be asking these questions. I disagree with the contention that other things are more important. If you make a list of top 3 questions you ask before buying a used boat, hours on boat is one of the three for me.
