[quote=thatsmrmastercraft;973392]I don't know of any states that require wearing a PFD while doing watersports, but I can't imagine why a person wouldn't.[/

Arkansas requires a USCG approved PFD while doing any water sports. I got a ticket about 10 years ago for barefooting in a suit that was not USCG approved cost me $150 fine. You also have to have all PFD's out, and within reach for every person that is in your boat along with a throwable has to be out. There is talk, by next year in Arkansas, you are going to have to wear a PFD while the boat is moving.

I won't pull anyone who doesn't have a CG approved vest. I remember, many years ago, when people used the flotation belts.

It is required if you are being towed in michigan. Not necessarily if you are surfing without a rope. You may then have to come up with a fancy explanation of how you got started though since you can't be standing while the boat is moving except when docking.

I agree some laws are good and there is more people on the lakes now than there was 25 years ago but they keep coming up with something new every year. Before long it's going to be against the law to have fun. Last year a friend of mine was out fishing by himself, nobody else was in the boat. A game warden pulled up and ask for his license, life jacket, and fire extinguisher. He showed him it all and then he said, where is your throwable. My buddy ask, why do I need a throwable. He said, because its required by law. My buddy then ask him, well who in the hell is going to throw it to me if I fall in. GW said, you don't have to be a smart a$$ but have a good day and he drove off.
