I appreciate all your input. I don't think I'm going to be able to fix it myself. I agree that there are probably cheaper shops. Heck, its just a small block chevy. Is there any benefit in resale being able to say the work was done by Rambo? I'll probably plan on keeping the boat for at least another season. Thanks again.

Not sure about resale no matter what if its not original it's gonna be questioned. I wouldn't be too keen on a jasper engine Id rather have a reputable speed shop rebuild the one in the boat, I wouldn't even try to spice it up with a cam higher compression or any of that just a basic reliable overhaul.

It's a tractor you want it to run forever. If you need more pull speed or something else buy a new prop

Are you really serious about questioning the quality of a Jasper re-manufactured engine over a local speed shop? Jasper has been in business for 70 years. If you were ever at their factory, or watched any of the videos of their facilities, you would think otherwise.

There is always a cheaper option, but I'm pretty sure Jasper has an 18 month transferrable warranty and I'm sure Rambo will stand behind thier work. The other thing to consider is when do you get that thing wet again? (easy now boys) you cant put a price on a speedy quality repair, and if you go the Jasper/Rambo route some estimates are negoitable no?

There is almost always some room for negotiation on estimates for someone (like me) who likes to do some bargaining.

You are correct on the 18 month parts & labor warranty on Jasper complete engines. I don't know of a better warranty available for a marine engine. If you want to back on the water quick, with tremendous reliability, this is the route. It certainly won't be the cheapest option.

jafo, where are you located? If you are dealing with Rambo you can't be too far away from the Birmingham area. A friend of the family is a great mechanic and could pull the motor and do the work for you for much less if you are interested.

He rebuilt a motor for me years ago and as far as I know (sold the old 76) it's still purring.

I never said anything about quality reliability etc.

Jasper wouldn't be my first choice. Especially if I have a good rebuildable engine to work from. My preference is to support local economy first. A good overhaul shop will stand behind their work.

I can't argue that point.

thanks for the offer. I called Rambo yesterday afternoon and gave them the OK to proceed. I like the idea of a warranty and since I plan to upgrade hulls in the next few years, hopefully with Rambo doing the work, it will make the sale easier.

They want 56 for an x1 with 192 hours. That's way off! That x-30 is way over priced also. Should be about 47 or so
