Ilmor Oil Filter

Has anyone figured out which K&N filter is used on the new Ilmor engines (or other quality filter) instead of the $23 one from the dealer?

Regular wix number is 5372 I believe. What I can remember for sure, is that it is the same filter as my 2013 F-150.

My dealer did send me a purolator L24651 filter last time but I exchanged it for the ilmor filter afterwards, no idea if that's a suitable match...

It shows as it fits late model ford v8s, so yes, that would be the right filter.

I would use the one that says Mastercraft on it. I've learned the hardway, always use factory equipment! I like k&n and use their air filter on a few of my vehicles but I still think factory stuff is always the best.

My dealer tried to talk me into using the Penzoil filter, says its the same thing as the Mastercraft one. They said Penzoil made the Mastercraft oil filter. It was a $1.00 cheaper. I said nope give me the one that says MC and I will gladly pay the extra dollar.

Maybe I can add to this thread for my fellow DIY'ers out there.

The Wix is a 51372.

Ilmor filters are not Mastercraft filters, they are Ilmor filters.

And they are strikingly similar looking to this:

Why one might ask?

Well now I will guess.

My thought is that ilmor and Mobil One have been racing together for a long time.
And who makes Mobil one and K&N filters?
Champion, who also makes Fram among others.
Is that to say they are all the same? No, not even close! However, I'm willing to bet the K&N and Ilmor are, if one was inclined to cut them open and look this could be confirmed.

I run Wix/Napa gold so I won't be conducting that analysis.

Here is a correct cross reference for those who want more options. Note the similarity in part numbers, HP2010 K&N vs. M1-210 Mobil 1. Kind of like Napa Gold 1372 vs. Wix 51372.

Happy hunting.
