Anyone remember....

way back when in the summer of '92 on the Bud Pro Tour
they were selling t-shirts that the proceeds went towards a guy who got messed up doing a stunt jump for Fox.

I think he skied into a wall, was it Jeff Carrington?

Dougy, how far back do your issues of Waterski go?

I've got some 94 and 95 issues that my wife saved from her subscription in college (how cool is she)! I didn't start getting them until 02 (shortly before I bought my boat).

To me, this forum is about love of inboard boats. It is about the sharing of information and, on a good day, some humor. It is not about post count, brand of boat, or any other superfluous labels that lend themselves to a false sense of superiority. Please, respect one another, try to pass on accurate information, and keep your eye on the ball.

It was Geoff Carrington

GEOFF CARRINGTON

In the three World Championships in which Geoff
Carrington competed, he won the jumping event
twice: in 1985 and 1989. In 1987 he earned the
bronze medal.

Prior to the 1991 World Championships Geoff was
injured in a freak ski jumping accident at Sea
World in Queensland which almost cost him his
life and left him a paraplegic. The water skiing
community around the world contributed funds to
help Geoff regain some of the qualities of life.
Geoff was awarded the honor of O.A.M. in 1990 for
his services to his country in the sport of water
skiing,

I am pleased to announce the induction into the
International Hall of Fame of one of the world's
outstanding jumpers: Geoff Carrington.

Interesting info. I think my father-in-law, my wife, and my brother-in-law used to go over to Shreveport every year for the Bud tour stop. Said it was a good time.

I remember the story, I believe he was filming a commercial when the accident happened.

I have most of the Waterski Magazines and its predisesor Spray datting back to 81, some to 78.

Here is a picture for a Obrien ad in 1988.

"Jump back Geoff" Was set up by Kris LaPoint after the accident to help with Geoff's rehab. I still have my "Jump back Geoff" hat autographed by Kris at the Mpls. Tour stop. Can't remember the year. Geoff was a fearless jumper and well respected competitor. Lots of his fellow competitors gave support after his tragic accident. I seem to remember reading somewhere that he got married to his longtime girlfriend a few years after the accident.

Again if memory serves me correctly, the accident happend during filming of a tv commercial in Australia. Something about jumping a pier and the day of the shoot boats were changed and the one used was underpowered.

Couldn,t afford the T shirt at the time...(long story).
I remember the filming part but always thought it was from CBS Sports Spectacular or Wide Worlds of Sports...
