Rudder

I needed to remove my rudder to see if or how much it was bent after a log strike
when I removed the cotter pin the rudder fell out from the port without loosening the pinch bolt on the rudder arm.
so I went to put the rudder back on and I tried to tighten the bolt to a point where I thought something was going to break and still theres not enough pinching on the rudder arm to grab the rudder shaft
am I missing something here?

I think the pinch bolt is threaded into the arm so make sure you tighten the bolt all the way before you tighten the nut. The cotter pin is just a fail safe and should not be the only thing holding the rudder in place.
