I think this is the thread you need, though I didn't have time to go through it to be sure.

Thank you both.

1. for pointing out the thread, and 2. for finding it. I don't know if it's my lack of search abilities or just wrong key words, but it looks like a great thread to walk me through the process.

Now it's just up to me to commit to the process. The boat technically works right now, and it's warm out, so I almost hate to screw it up.....

if your going to rebuild - why not wait till season over?.... IMO i don't believe gears will be affected... it's skiing time - but I am not a trans expert...

Search functions on here are leave a bit to be desired. Fortunately there are enough people around here that someone usually remembers the thread eventually.

No reverse while picking up a skier could end in a terrible accident.
Add docking and loading on the trailer, not an easy task without reverse even for an experience driver.
Being on the water would not be as relaxing as it should.

Again, not a complicated job to do.With the help of a buddy who knows a bit how to work on mechanical things and this board,it s a 2 guys ,6hrs and 12 beers job!

Agreed... forgot to consider the compensation for the job - I very rarely use reverse... very rarely..

I've been pulling skiers and launching my boat a lot without reverse this season and last season, so far so good - luckily haven't had to dock the boat yet.

I would be worried about lack of maneuverability in an emergency situation.
