Count me as a Fin lover. I don't jib, do surface tricks, or skate. I like a locked in feel when I get on the gas. I ride a 2012 Ronix Mana w Ronix Ones

Six/half a dozen here. My Slingshot Lyman has inner and outer positions for fins. It's like there are no fins when you want to do surface tricks, etc, and there is just a little grab/tracking there when you want it. I was going to run the board without fins altogether, but really, I can't hardly tell they are even on there.

I don't have any trouble doing surface tricks with fins on. I ride a Ronix District 143 with blended 3 stage. It has 4 1" fins. I can't tell they're there when I do surface 180s and 360s. Maybe I'll give finless a try. I'm a snowboarder turned wakeboarder so I don't have any issues with edging.

I ride a Harley 135 with fins on the outsides. I have no trouble snagging an edge because of them so I leave them on. As said before most new boards have enough hold molded in the board to help keep your edge.

Took the fins off and that's how I'll keep it!! Save more landings and there is plenty of grab with the molded fins when needed.

Depends. Now days there are park/boat combo boards. These tend to have 4 outside removable/adjustable(different sizes) fins. They typical boat board has molded in side fins and a removable center fin.
Center fins you most likely want to ditch. You may want to switch back and forth: For one to find out which you prefer. For another, practicing edging without fins will most likely improve your overall edging abilities. Also, over time your preferences my change. You will never know unless you experiment. |
