Is $200 too much for a spare tire?

I'm lazy. I can order a spare tire (GY Marathon), already mounted on a modular rim, from Overtons for about $200, shipping included. Or I can shop around for both wheel and tire, then get them mounted. Is this reasonable, considering the convenience? (calling thatsmrmastercraft)

I bought a matching rim for my trailer for $100 off ebay and paid $35 for a used tire mounted and balanced locally. If you want a new tire for your spare, $200 is pretty reasonable with the rim.

Yep, leave a PM for Mr. MasterCraft; he will take care of you. I bought two tires about a month ago; stellar service!

$200 is ok for a tire and chrome mod rim mounted and balanced but I wouldn't give you 5 bucks for a Marathon!
Ok for a spare only I suppose but those tires are single handedly responsible for more torn up fenders than all others put together.
They tend to de laminate and tear stuff up

Shoot me a PM with your tire size and what kind of wheel you are looking for and I will be happy to get you a price.

Khumo 857 or maxxis tire is what you want. If 14" , the khumo is the only D rated tire on the market and has great reviews. As said above chinese built marathons and some carlisle tires have lots of problems (although some folks have been fine, its a crapshoot as to whether you get ok ones or not).

I am charging $109 plus actual freight for a silver or white steel wheel with an ST205/75R14 6 ply Gladiator QR-25. Chrome modular wheel is an additional $10.

While Maxxis and Khumo are both fine tires, but they are overpriced for what you get.

More props to the Kumhos.......
Just hauled a trailer from WA to AK, 2500 mi, flyin low whenever possible. Trailer slightly overloaded, tires were at about 90% of rated capacity.
Tires actually wore thru the trailer deck plywood from he suspension flex over every one of the thousands of frost heaves. Tires are 5 yrs old with 20 k miles or so on them.
Several times looked back to see trailer catching air over unsuspecting frost heaves!
Many rocks in the road from slides, washouts, etc.
Tires show no additional treadwear and no flats.
By way of comparison, next trip with virtually new trailer tires different trailer, no where close to max load capacity, driving slower (family in the truck and a big camper slow you down a bit), less miles, tires are near shot.
For high milers on boat trailers just get the Kumhos. Money well spent.
