Teaching an 11yr old to slalom

I want to teach my son to slalom this year. He can wakeboard and surf so slalom is next on the list. He is about 5' tall and 75lbs, will he need a junior ski or will a recreational adult ski be ok? What speed should I pull him at to start?

Do you have any slalom gear?

75 pounds ideal ski is 64" if you're talking slalom course. For learning, and for him being 11 and going to grow, and probably not hitting the course, then you might just get any recreational ski in the 64-66" range, knowing the 66" ski is what I ride at 175 lbs 6'0.

For 100$ hard to pass this up. Bindings you need his foot size, I'd get a Wiley's CBO front with a Rear toe plate.

My daughter will be 12 this year and has been on a slalom ski now for 3 years

She learned off of the boom to get up then went to dropping and finally deep start at the end of 2011

She is on an HO 63 with double Wiley's high wraps. She was on half of a set of doubles but could never get out of the water with it.

I pull her in the 26-27 mph range

My three daughters all slalomed at 7. Start them on the boom then add a short handle to the boom then the tower then the pylon. I would have them deep water start versus dropping as that progression will work. They have all started on a kids trainer with a rtp added. Then onto a kids kd7000. At 75 lbs I would move to junior trainers simply on size.
