Head unit, speakers, amps or all of the above?

First piece of equipment replaced on my 94 190...

my $0.02. on my 02 with the clarion XMD1, i decided that the head unit was pretty much a vessel to move music from my mp3 player to the amps. i never use the CD or radio. i'm fortunate to have pretty decent AT&T coverage where i boat so i can use pandora if i get tired of my usual play lists. having said that. i left the HU alone and spent my upgrade money on amp/speakers/eq. i also bought an inline headphone amp to boost the signal to my HU. whenever wetsounds comes out with their bluetooth solution for their WS420, i'll use that instead of the HU for aux input. bottom line, i didn't spend a dime on the HU and upgraded everything else.

Old head untit was hot so had no choice to replace. Can't play any tunes without a head unit.

Speakers, amps, subbs and rest if the goodies to come later...

Do you want a sub? I would get some jl in boat speakers and a 4 channel amp. If u want a sub get a 5 channel and like a 8 or 10 inch sub. I am in the process (slowly) getting new jl mx650, 8 w3v3 sub in a ported enclosure under the bow of my 190.

just installed 4 x jl mx650's in my 190, very happy with them. addition of an amp and sub makes for a really solid system. I plan to add both in the next few years, had to spend that budget this year unexpectedly on an MDC box

Trying not to jack the OP's thread, but 19 Skier, you have any pics of your speakers installed?

I am on a 2 year upgrade plan due to a baby on the way and the warden throwing the hammer down for a bigger house . So far, I just added a Clarion CMD6, MW2 remote, and MF1 Wireless remote for the transom. I also added the Sirius adapter for the head unit since I can't go anywhere without my Octane . Late last summer, I added the Infinity 612M's in the cabin since 2 of my old Clarions went out and I was in a pinch right before a boat trip. The price was right and I have been really happy with them since. I'll eventually replace them with Polk DB's down the road so I can incorporate the tweeters back into play. I currently have the factory 4 Ch Clarion amp from 2002 (model escapes me) and a Polk 600.1 Mono amp for my 10 inch sub. I'm also debating on replacing the sub as it's an 11 year old Punch. Haven't decided between the Polk MM or JL subs.

My plans for the winter include scrapping both amps and adding either 2 JL or Alpine stackable amps. Right now I am leaning towards the Alpines simply due to price. The 5 channel will power the cabins and sub, while the second amp will power a pair of Wetsounds tower speakers.....yet to be determined.

So far, I am really happy with the way it has turned out. Definitely not the loudest by any means, but I could care less.....it sounds good and the Warden is happy....for now
