Changing the fuel filter on an LY6

Hi

Just had my XStar service (LY6 engine).
It is a 2008 with 160 hours on it.
The mechanic said there was no need to change the fuel filter as it didn't do much and was difficult to replace being at the bottom of the pump and requiring major components to be removed to replace it.

Is this true?

Thanks
Ian

Might be a little overkill, but I change mine every year. Fuel injectors don't like dirt of any kind, I would rather spend $13.00 (for both filters) than have a problem on the water.

Yes better to be safe than sorry!
Do you know if it is a difficult as the mechanic says on an LY6 engine on a 2008 XStar?
Thanks
Ian

Sorry, I can't. Mine is a '98 Prostar190. I'm sure some one will chime in soon though.

It is true that it is a messy job. Have to pull the in tank pump. Where are you at in the NW? We can do it for you.

Do you recommend doing it every year even if I don't do a lot of hours? (I did about 10 hours last year as the weather in the UK was so bad!).

IIRC, owners manual says every 100 hours or annually. Might be every other year. Some say the filter only works for the bottom 1/4 of the tank. Keep your tank full of fuel and do it as often as you think necessary.
