Should my tower have "play"?

Hi - I am a new owner of a beautiful 2006 Maristar 200. We went for our first run today - and the water was rough (2-3 ft rollers w/whitecaps). I heard a lot of chatter from the tower, and could see it moving. I tightened all of the "dials" as tight as I could by hand. When I push laterally on the tower, it moves.....is this normal???????? If not....what is the fix?

http://mastercraft.com/teamtalk/show...tower+brackets

there are some additional brackets that were added to these towers via your dealer ... it does not appear your boat has them ... there were some previous threads on this

Even with the angle brackets, which are missing from your tower, mine moves around and creaks. It's better when it's under load with someone behind the boat. Just the design I guess, it would be impossible to make it foldable and totally rigid.

That's a 2007 tower on that boat. You should have the brackets. They help but it will still move some.

I've experienced other towers that fold that don't chatter. That style of MC tower is just known for it.

The tower on our 2007 X2 was the same. Shook some, didn't really rattle. Kind of bugged me at first but then I got used to it. It never got worse so I assumed that was the way it was supposed to be.

That's a beautiful boat. I have a similar tower on my X with the braces and it's solid. They do help.

You need the braces, particularly with four speakers...that's a lot of extra weight up there.

I havent seen a tube town NOT rattle & squeak during rough water conditions. Even the Power Tower i had on my 2011 & 2012 would squeak and rattle to some extend when on chop.
