1995 Maristar with LT1

Just purchased a 1995 Maristar with a LT1 engine. This boat has a set up with a V-drive system so the engine actually sits in the boat backwards. My questions are:
With the front of the engine up close to the stern of the boat, how do you get at the water pump impeller to change it out?
Second question is that the raw water intake is directly above one of the bunk boards on the trailer thus not allowing me to connect a hose with a plunger type setup to start it while on the trailer. Can a person connect directly to the raw water intake hose with a hose from the house to properly cool the engine while on the trailer?

Any and all information will be appreciated.

1) its alittle tough, take 20 minutes. I dont have any issues getting to mine, Take the engine cover off makes it easier
2) Skidim sells a water hose connection piece, very pricy, I got lucky and mine came with one. I can take a picture of it if you want me too.

you'll get lots of home made methods for pulling the impeller on a v-drive. i just bit the bullet and bought the tool off skidim.com. makes it super easy and low stress.

as for running on the hose. the "fake a lake" plunger isn't too popular on this site. i fabricated a length of 1 1/4" tubing with a standard hose attachment on the end. originally, i intended to use the big hose attached directly to the garden hose and then plugged in to the lower port of my raw water pump. now i attach the 1 1/4" hose and put the other end in a bucket full of water. the bucket if fed by the garden hose. this method lets me know if i'm pulling more water than my garden hose can supply. i can start to empty the bucket even with the garden hose turned all the way up at about 1400rpm. if i left it there i could run the pump dry.

have fun with your v-drive. the DD guys definitely have the upper hand when it comes to maintenance.

Use a bucket.... I used the hose method until I made a cheap bucket and saw how fast the engine sucked water at idle and a little above idle... Under ten bucks for this beauty...
