Munich Suggestions

Going soon, should have a bit of time to take in some sights. Any tips / recommendations?

Staying downtown, near Hofbrauhaus, so yes we will hit that for sure.

Go to the Olympic Village. Also, we did a bike tour that was a lot of fun, and learned alot about the city and its history, and made a stop at a beer garden with HUGE beers.

We took the train from Munich to Dachau - it was a horrible place, but honestly, part of our history and it has been preserved as such. Olympic Village was sketchy - we literally had some guys try to corner us in another car like perhaps they were up to no good - but we floored it and got out of there - BMW plant is awesome - Bavarian Forest and Castle Neushwe.... (castle Disney is modeled after) is cool because Mad King Ludwig broke his country building it.

Have fun - (ask around about the old restaurants where the Nazi's would eat - those are quite interesting as far as history as well)

If you get the chance-Dachau is well worth it! Just try and find the places where the locals hang and be respectful of their culture and they will treat you great! Big Beers too!

Mikes Bike Tour is a great time: http://www.mikesbiketours.com/munich/
When you are done with the Hoffbrauhaus go where the locals drink http://www.augustiner-braeu.de/ It's a 2 min walk from the HBH.
If the weather is not so great check out the German technological museum - you can spend months in there....
Also the BMW veld and museum is worth a trip... It's close the Olympic Stadium.

ENJOY!

If you have time, take a trip down to Garmisch. Great town in the German Alps.

To me, this forum is about love of inboard boats. It is about the sharing of information and, on a good day, some humor. It is not about post count, brand of boat, or any other superfluous labels that lend themselves to a false sense of superiority. Please, respect one another, try to pass on accurate information, and keep your eye on the ball.

The DeutchesMuseum is excellent as well. Lots of stuff centered around the birth of "technology" and a huuuuge underground life size mining exhibit that spans multiple levels. Very cool if you're a geek like me.

MaximillianStrasse is their "Rodeo Drive" with a ton of high end shops. Lots of exotic cars usually parked right there too.

Regensberg is about 40min north, situated along the Danube river. The Altestadt (old city) in the center was not bombed during WWII, so it is entirely preserved with narrow cobblestone streets and a huuuuge gothic cathedral overlooking the stone bridge and river. Have dinner or a beer at AlteLinde Biergarten right on the Donau (Danube).

Generally, the smaller the restaurant the better. I love eating at the little mom and pop places that only have 5 things on the menu because it's usually "fantastiche!"

Gute Reise!

Thanks all. Trip was good.

Mikes bike tour was awesome.

Only had one beer at HB. Many others elsewhere. Favorite was Ayingers, with Augustiner in second place. Favorite food was a little spot near the main market kinda south of marienplatz. I had the "sheep" as the waitress referred to it.

Ran by the museum, but didn't get a chance to go in. Looked cool for sure. Also ran thru englisher garden on the 1st warm weekend day of the year. Bazillion people. Most had clothes on....

Saw a few ferraris and other fancy cars on Maximilian drive as mentioned by EFI.

Now I need to find where I can get that beer here.....
