Babies and Boats

A recent threat about a babies first swim got me thinking...

I have a 5 month old, soon to be a 6 month old and wondered if anyone has dared to bring a baby with them out on the water. We are probably a month out from our first trip and planned on getting a baby sitter, but as a rule of thumb when is the earliest you would bring your kids to the water?

Six Weeks old has been typical for our little ones.

3 weeks for our two boys. At that age, they were always held by mom or dad and we did not go near anything but very smooth water. When they were older, they were happy to sit in the car seat or bouncy seat (never strapped in) right next to the driver's legs.

Infant life vest is a given.

There is no rule about doing this or not doing this. It is all based on the parents' comfort level with it. Our kids have always loved the boat and water. We didn't plan to do it like we did it. It just happened that way. The little ones generally go right to sleep when that big V8 rumbles to life.

+1 on 6 weeks for both of my kids - the water and engine sooth them. A bungy bouncy seat works great from the tower when anchored.

Ours is due July 31, most likely earlier I remember my cousin in the boat at 3 weeks old so that's what I'm planning on for our little pro wake boarder in training!

4-6 weeks...just gotta watch for heat/cold...they're delicate at that age. Enjoy time on the water with the kids, things don't get much better than a family day on the lake!!!

My son miles was born may29th. He we t for his first boat ride June 15 on my birthday. Always in our arms. Never strapped into a car seat. We were extremely careful of other boat wakes and our surroundings. We don't have a Bimini so we used a moto x umbrella for shade. Heat was the hardest element to deal with.
