Getting 04 xstar ready for summer and need help!

Have an 04 xstar and was wondering what I need to grease, fluid change, inspect, replace before the season starts? Thanks everyone!

I change the impeller and spark plugs and that's about it. Oil and transmission fluid get changed when I winterize and the batteries are on a charger when the boat's not in the water. It's also a good idea to check out your trailer.

Are there any grease fittings I need to check on the xstar? Gonna change the impeller and oils for sure.

Is this boat new to you? If so, do you have any maintenance history on it?

If you have no idea what's been done before, here's what you should look at:

Change oil and trans fluid
Change cap, rotor and plugs
Back-flush trans cooler with a garden hose
Replace impeller
Change fuel filter (it's in the tank but very important to change it every 2 years or you may shorten the life of your fuel pump) These fuel pumps are known to fail early anyway. Never run your boat below 1/4 tank of fuel either...it can burn out the pump.

Unless you see a grease fitting on the rudder port, you have to remove the rudder to grease it. I do this on my '05 every 2 years.

Clean and oil your air filter (spark arrestor) K&N style
Check belt tension and condition.

It's new to me but the previous owner changed the oils each season and put a new impeller in too. Need to figure out how to back flush trans cooler. Is there anything else in the steering that needs grease? Where is a good place online to order a fuel filter? Thanks!

-Place a jack under the rudder with a block of wood so rudder won't be damaged
-Remove cotter pin
-remove pinch bolt on rudder arm. You have to remove the nut and then loosen the bolt because the bolt is threaded into the arm (If I remember correctly)
-remove rudder arm and square-cut key
-lower rudder

Reverse this procedure to re-install rudder after lubing the shaft with waterproof grease
(I use red wheel bearing grease made for boat trailer wheel bearings)

There should be a thrust washer between arm and rudder port...don't lose it.
