prostar 214 or 197?

Looking to simplify. We have such a small crew - family of 3 that ocassionally brings one of my son's friends along. We trailer our boat and want to keep it in a garage. I have a 23 foot wake boad now, but it is way more than we need. I really like the idea of the prostar 214, but you don't see many around. Our friends (family of 3) have a prostar 197 that they have used for years. Any advice on the 214? Why are they not more popular? should I stay away from it and stick with 197?

With your son and friends probably getting more into wakeboarding in the future, don't you think it would be a good idea to keep the wakeboard boat, despite not being a MC , or maybe getting an X2????

We love our 214. It does everything we need it to. The extra size makes it handle the rough water of our local lake better than a 197, and the extra storage is also a plus.

Have you looked at the 214V? It may fit your needs even better.

We have a PS 205 and love it. It has been described as the boat that does everything well and nothing great. This also matches our families skiing ability. Myself and one daughter slalom, our son wake boards and youngest daughter tubes and lounges. We are all decent skiers, run the slalom course, work on getting good air and throwing tricks and enjoy aggressive tube wars. Our 205 (and a 214) allows all of this to be possible. In addition our 205 is rated for 10 people, great to have capacity when friends and kids come along.

A 197, (while my preferred boat to ski behind) would limit us in many ways. Be honest with your evaluation of what you will do behind the boat and how well you will do it and the answer will be obvious.

Good Luck with your decision.

Disagree - the 205 is one awesome 3 event boat with the exception of the 22' off bump.

I'd go 214 if theres no serious slaloming going on.

+1 for the 214. The 197 is an amazing boat but really directed at 3-event fanatics. I think the 214 (DD or V) would be an excellent choice.

talked to local MC dealer - they said they can no longer order the 214 because it is being discontinued. That sucks. i guess the search continues.

For the record, I have a Malibu 23 LSV. We bought a new house with pool and golf course in the neighborhood so our boating time will be going down. We want to get into something smaller and cheaper that will fit in the garage. Nothing wrong with the LSV, just don't need something that big. i will try to sell it and maybe buy something used.

The 214 is really a great boat, with awesome ski ability for the size. It is a niche boat in today's world of wake and surf boats, the engine in the middle is a turn off for the non skier side of boating ....personally the 214 DD feels like it was designed for us since we like to slalom first and then do the other stuff .... We are a family of 4 with a 10 and 14 year old that often would like to bring friends .... But we also do declare slalom only sessions in the course with 2-3 in the boat and a skier at 34 mph behind it .....

We have the min tower but no ballast which really improves storage ....

If the budget needs to shrink cause of your pool, then find an older 205 or 190 .....ski on!
