A Couple Questions on the Mastercraft X2

Hello all,

I've be roaming the forum searching for some info, and need some help with some questions.

I currently own a Malibu Wakesetter VLX (04), and my recent boat show fell in love with the X2. I just love the size of it, especially the beam, since it will easily fit on my current lift.

I am looking for a used 06-Current X2, and have a couple questions:

1. Can anyone direct to me a thread or give me info on the difference of the X2 by year? Post 205v hull. Like what changed year to year?

2. The standard ballast on the X2 was rear and front ballast tanks below the floor? On timers?

3. Are the ballast pumps jabsco every year? So plug and play is easy to do?

4. The original x2 tower folds down obviously. Will it make it under a 7 ft garage? Some threads say yes or no.

5. The lack of tracking fins... I'm not a pro wakeboarder by any means. Is it true the boat wanders while wakeboarding without them? Or overblown?

6. Is there anyone online you can buy seat skins from to replace vinyl? With Malibu there are guys who sell them on the side.

Thanks guys! If there is an awesome x2 info thread which I missed, please link me to it!

2012 will not fit in a 7' garage. I know first hand. Well, it will fit, but you need a custom adjustable trailer hitch: http://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk/...ad.php?t=44089

2011 and prior, I believe will, but you have to take some parts off: http://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk/...ad.php?t=27149

I've never felt my boat wander while either slalom skiing or wakeboarding. It does turn like a barge while weighted down, maybe tracking fins would help with that.

The deck changed in 2012, along with under seat cooler location. I'm not sure of any hull changes other than that.

Always had Jabsco pumps, timers were added, changed, then removed in 2012. If you read through this thread, there is info on the timers: http://mastercraft.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=25491. 2012's had no timers, and you were supposed to have the factory plug-n-play to fill extra bags. Without it, you had to either fake the system to think you had it or rewire your ballast motors. MC has supposed to updated software to allow your dealer to program different fill times, but the update came out late last year, so not many people have gotten it installed to test out.

One good plus that came out on 2012's was auto launch that automatically lowers the attitude plate when you get on plane when ballast is full. It helps out quite a bit.

I think Viper is where a lot of people get skins, but I've never looked into it. Look at the upholstery forum section.

I have also never had any issues with wandering while wakeboarding or skiing.

Also, our 07 does fit in our 7 ft garage (barely!).

My 08 also fits in a 7' garage door. Don't have to remove any parts. Boat does not wander while wake boarding

Never had issues with wondering on my 2011, I have had some big boys behind that thing, 270-300 lbs. No issues.

Also, I have the fly high system in my boat, works great. My dealer added an additional ballast pump and drain line for my front sacs so they would fill faster and drain easier, I believe it gave it a closed loop system so that it would draw a vacum easier.

Thanks for the response guys. Ive been traveling so havent had a chance to respond.

I am looking at the 2007-08-09 era X2.

From what I gathered in my research:
2006 was the first year, no ballast timers.
2007, they changed the tower, dash, added ballast timers.
2008, any changes?

Is the newer tower with the mastercraft written on the side, a better tower? Looks nicer. Fairly stable?

Which years came with a wakeplate?

If you get an 07, just make sure it has the support brackets for the tower. Some people didn't go back and get the brackets, and without them, the tower is very shaky.
