Shotty repair
I found this boat I wish to purchase from a dealership in Texas. The salesman told me the previous owner had someone try to fix some scratches on the transom. They did a crappy job. The salesman said he would come down on price to pay for additional repairs to fix it or pay for a wrap on the boat. By looking at these pictures do these cracks look to be serious? Should they be fixed or would it be safe for me to wrap the boat? It also looks like overspray where they tried to lend on the sides. Did it crack because it dried incorrectly? I don't know much about gel coat and don't want to buy it if its going to continue to crack. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm no expert either, but that sure looks like a serious impact. Let's see what the experts have to say.

I don't know of too many cracks that get smaller as time passes. Where it Texas is it? Or, better yet, what dealership is it? There is a second to none gelcoat repair guy in Dallas.

I don't know anything about gelcoat repair, but the pic in post #3, down in the lower right, looks like two pieces of trim that don't line up. I'd second the idea that the hull took a pretty big impact. That, and those cracks look like they're through the gelcoat and in to the fiberglass. I'm sure it can be repaired to full structural strength, but I'd expect a very, very sweet deal.

That's major damage to crack and buckle like that and not a cosmetic repair...I'd pass... There seem to be a few good 35s in the mid to upper 50's. did you see the all black one and the silver flake and red??

Where? Most of the ones I find have the Mxc motor in them. I'm kind of Leary about getting one. I don't want the motor to be struggling and wear out faster. It's always cheaper to buy the bigger motor then make a small one stronger.
