Found a S&S that needs work/TLC. Fair Price???

Been searching for a S&S project for a few months. I have located a boat that is about 4.5 hours away and have only seen pictures of the boat. Boat is a 1980 and appears to be in fair to good condition. Known issues are rot at the motor mounts, very small crack in windshield, minor gel coat gouge (happened at same time), shaft will also need replacement. Owner stated that floor has been replaced and stringers were good (?). Not sure when the floor was replaced why the motor mount work was not done. Gel coat will need the repair and some work to bring back the shine (possibly wet sand). Motor and trans are to be in good repair. Upholstery needs a few new skins--passenger seat, motor box, side pads.

My thoughts are that repairing rot to motor mounts will most likely lead to stringer replacement and new floor/carpet. Doing the work myself, between stringers (if needed)/floor and shaft and other, I'm looking at putting 2-4,000 into the boat.

Owner is asking 3,300. I told him I was comfortable at around 1,600 but no bite on that. Is my offer way off, or should I keep looking?

Thanks for you help. Also if you know of any S&S or late 80s ProStar project boat in the Southeast please let me know. Have the cash and willing to travel to find the right boat.

Thanks.

Thanks Traxx. I do not want to lowball anyone and try to respect their asking price, but I have seen some crazy asking prices for boats that need alot of work.

In my world what you offered us the high upper end. Keep looking.
My opinion, others may vary.

^This.

You should be able to find a boat for that kinda money that needs one of the following not all:

Interior work
Gel Coat work (buffing/decal replacement)
Floor/stringer work

Keep looking there is more out there.

Not to mention the cracked windshield - there's no replacement glass available

One online on the MasterCraft Project. I think it would fit this year, but I could be wrong (it's happened before), you'd have to measure.

Nice looking boat....needs lifter work.....Looks like wet sanding, new decals and a pinstripe and you are set. I would jump on this if I was not restoring my 1970. http://chattanooga.craigslist.org/boa/3338282154.html Happy to check it out for you and be some local eyes. Let me know...PM me if you need me to look at it.
