I had a 2013 5.3 come in with 6000 miles on it that already had to have 1qt added to it at about 4500 miles. I don't know what's going on with the oil consumption on the 5.3, but it makes me almost not want one 07 and newer. Don't get me wrong I love gm and the 5.3, but they need to do something with it. I know of multiple 07+ 5.3s that use oil. I've got 3 that come in about every 25000 and need a new spark plug in #1 because its oil fouled. And I don't work at a gm dealership

I can attest to the 5.3L oil consumption. My 2007 new body style would use 1 to 2 quarts between changes at 5,000 intervals. Changed the oil at nearly 170k miles and it was 2.5 qts low. I traded it in the following week for a Tundra 5.7L and couldnt be happier.

Gotta love a big block burb thread.
My buddy just traded his '07 5.3 with cylinder deactivation. It was burning 2qts. Every 3k and only had 100k on it. Chevy said it was normal and wouldn't fix it.
Big block burbs? Yes the 8.1 is a beast. Either '05 or '06 was the last year for it. They put a 4l85 Trans behind it. Then you get one ton running gear to go with it. It's a real truck and I highly recommend it, I may be biased
But I'm not so brand blind that I wouldn't look at a diesel ford excursion as well.
Happy hunting.
