Talking Daughter update

Thank you to all that prayed/expressed concern for the well being of my daughter Samantha. She was in a car accident on 07/26/2013, comatose for nearly two weeks with a DAI brain injury. We were told that she would spend the rest of her days in an institution, if she ever came out of the coma. She did come out of the coma. She had to learn to breathe, talk, walk, eat, drink, write, etc... all over again. It was hard work. For Christmas, all she wanted was a Cove Wakesurfer Board (which we got for her). She kept it next to her bed to keep her motivated. She spent hours a day on her Indo board over the winter. Two weekends ago, we put the boat in for the first time since her accident - there were too many logs floating to enter the water, but she realized that did not remember how to drive. She also realized that she did not remember actually wake surfing or wake boarding - she only remembered that she loves it and us showing her the pictures of her doing it. She didn't get down, but requested that our next time out be only family, so she could have time to train for driving, boarding and surfing. Here she is. Long winded, I am, I know - but I am a grateful and proud dad and just have to again, say Thank You to all of you for your support.

One more thing

Cove Wakesurfer was great. Their rep knew that Sam was in an accident and wanted that board for Christmas and went through hoops to get it for her as quickly as humanly feasible. Love that company.

Glad she is doing better!

I understand what she is going thru, TBI sufferer here. Family, close friends and familiarity was key for me. The Army/VA sent me to Virginia Nuerocare for treatment and rehabilitation after I left two different hospitals. Virginia Nuerocare helped me to be more self sufficient, learn tricks to help my memory and ways to keep from forgetting things. I set up a desk to keep things ( keys, phone, wallet ) so they wouldn't get lost. I carried around a small book for help with instructions and new people I met, now I use an iphone. Some iphone games such as luminosity are fun and help to retrain the brain.

/hi5 to your kid.

I have to ask, why is everyone riding on the back deck or their boats?

"Heavy" beer is for wine drinkers that are too embarrassed to drink wine in front of their buddies. "Light" beer is a drinkin' man's beer!
