Depth Finder
One of my next projects this winter is the installation of a basic depth finder.
I am thinking of relocating the hour meter somewhere else, and installing the depth gauge in its place. ![]() Or maybe getting something like the picture below: ![]() And just adding the depth gauge, but in my opinion it won't be as clean as moving the hour meter. Anyone done this mod/upgrade to a PS190/205 of older vintage? There is a decent video of a guy on youtube adding a depth finder to his older Malibu. (He is actually quite a character...). Thoughts? Pictures of your work?

On my TS190, The hour meter spot is where I mounted my depth sounder and moved the hour meter gauge to the back of the intake manifold. You can barely make out the hour meter next to the throttle cables.

I'm planning on either relocating my hours gauge or rebuilding the spot the radio is installed at if there is room to put the display there next to the radio.
Which one are you looking at? I'm looking at the Faria depth + air temp + water temp unit and using the in-hull option that doesn't require drilling a hole below water line. http://www.boatersland.com/far-13752.html

Could get you some bling
![]() or could just relocate it under the dash. I mean how often do you need your hour meter. Putting it in the engine compartment is pretty nifty though |

I did the exact same thing.
I put the Humminbird HDR650 where the hour meter was. I put the hour meter in the engine compartment. I got some scrap metal, drilling a hole in it and mounted the old hour meter in the metal, attached to an empty bolt hole on the manifold. You really don't need to see the hours while you're driving. http://www.amazon.com/Humminbird-407.../dp/B00417HG3W

I just installed one, but I had a clock, which was useless so I just removed the clock and now I have a depth finder. Running the wiring was kind of fun with one person, but doable.

The Hummingbird product is what I was looking at. Inexpensive and no drilling thru hull.
I think I will investigate sourcing a piece of aluminum and relocating the hour meter to the engine compartment or under bow compartment.

You could move the hour meter to the right side, arm rest/throttle area. Cutting a 2" hole and moving it there would be easy and you could still see it.

This what I used to mount the hour meter on the throttle bracket on the back of intake manifold found at local Oreilly's Auto less than $8

So it spears that the 2 most popular types are the Hummingbird and the Faria type. How do those of you that have them like them? Easy to install? Reliable reading? Just lookin for a couple of product reviews here folks...
