apple airplay onboard

I'm tired of connecting my iPod touch via cable to my Clarion head unit. I want a wireless solution (because it would be cool to control the audio tracks from the beach) and don't want Bluetooth - it compresses audio and most of my music is in ALAC format so kind of degrades the fidelity of it, in my opinion. So I had an idea about using Airplay to achieve this. Here goes...

1- iPod touch, connecting wirelessly to...
2- TP Link TL-WR702N (smallest wireless router in the world, with 1 port), connects via Ethernet cable to...
3- AppleTV, connects via RCA cable to the head unit AUX port

and my alternate "audiophile" (and $$$$) setup

1- iPod touch, connecting wirelessly to...
2- TP Link TL-WR702N (smallest wireless router in the world, with 1 port), connects via Ethernet cable to...
3- AppleTV, connects via HDMI to...
4- ViewHD HDMI audio extractor, connects via SPDIF to...
5- Benchmark DAC2L digital to analog audio converter, connects via RCA cable to head unit AUX input

My main question is powering all of this gear and keeping it dry (especially with option 2 as the DAC is relatively bulky).

Thoughts?

Use a Bluetooth v4 / AptX adapter. Google it my friend. The audio quality is very good.

Get a wr703n instead and install shairplay on it. That way you don't need the apple tv. They sell kits on amazon for $50 with everything you need.

Roger what jrw 160 said. For $50 you're in. I have it in my car-def better than Bluetooth. Maybe I'll do the boat but charging is key!

For any who are using the wr703n kit, where do yup have the device? Is it in your glove box or over by the driver to plug into the 3.5m audio plug? Also how are you providing power to the unit? Are you using a 12v receptacle or did you wire it into some other power?

I was going to run a 3.5 splitter and mount a jack near the driver's seat. I'm going to look into this stuff. I had no idea bluetooth adapters could be had for the same cost as the wiring and mount.

I say bluetooth it - it's controlable via the head unit and the transom remote

Do you know if that's true for the CMD4? That would be great if the remote can control an iphone from the wired remote but it seems the telemetry isn't there on RCAs alone. Perhaps with the ipod interface 30 pin unit?
