I use Turbo tax, cd/downloaded version in the past years. I'm not so sure I like the online version and then they have a copy of my financial information on their systems. Yes, I know a lot of others have it, but one more is not better. Since I have investments, depreciation schedules, etc I figure it saves me many hours of hand calculations so it is well worth the investment.

Great thread. I have a friend that is a tax preparer but really don't want him meddling in my finances. We usually do the turbotax thing, but I always feel like I'm leaving money on the table with it.

We are thinking about paying a preparer this year.

TaxAct is a cheap alternative.

I've never been a fan of online (or even e-filing). It just seems a bit too invasive to type all of my tax information into a form that's going to be stored, analyzed and sold to the highest bidder. I'll spend the $20 to get a software package that runs on my PC and doesn't communicate back to the mothership, and I'll normally print out and mail.

I use TurboTax CD, not online. I am also paranoid about leaving my info on their site, even though it is most likley safe.

I have used TaxCut which I believe is now known as H&R Block, but the year I had 2 kids in college, it didn't seem to look right or ask the right questions. I bougth Turbo Tax that year and it was much easier to use.

I've used the H&R Block on-line program as well as Turbo Tax...either way, I always pay waaayy too much in taxes!!

I think I preferred the H&R Block program but I think these two are essentially the same.
