07' X1 Cruise issues

My cruise has worked great for years, but a couple of years ago we started having issues with it. I will set it and bring up to speed and it will take over fine, but then the boat will start to surge and not maintain speed until it settles at an idle, almost like I'm having a fuel issue. In fact that's what we thought it was, but were able to narrow the issue to the cruise (once it starts doing that we can turn the cruise off and it will run fine). So far I have not been able to figure out a pattern or symptom, it seems to happen completely at random. It will run great for a few tows then will start up again. I talked to the shop at my dealer and they thought it might be a speed paddle issue, but speedos seem to work fine when this is happening. Any thoughts?

Bad ground? Pop the MC cruise off the dash and make sure the connections behind are tight. Also make sure those same wires are connected well in the engine compartment. Probably need a wiring diagram for that.

Sand2snow- That does sound like a possible culprit, my only problem is in S. Oregon I'm still a couple months from taking the boat out of the garage and putting it on the water.

Check the paddle wheel, if you have not already. While I do not think this is it, worth a look. Mine does the same thing even after a reset. Still have not figured it out, although it seems to work better in RPM mode than wakeboard mode.
