These things are sweet! Running this on my boat and sounds great. BT 4.0 hardly drains the phone battery either.

Hmmm....the one I just picked up from earmark says v3.0 on the box. What's the difference?

The box is wrong. You have the 4.0 version. I verified this when I received mine as well.

It's a bluetooth receiver. Allows you to stream from a mobile device when hooked up to your stereo. There's lots of different ways to hook this up.
