repair of this oldschool slalom ski. . . ideas?
It should be simple enough, but not having done this before I don't know what glue to use. I do have clamps that I can use. This is a ski that the family has had for about 31 years now lol. It's been in storage in an unheated shed at my mom's and since I got the MC I convinced her that the ski should come my direction.
a pic of the ski.  and of the delaminated area  It's only the area forward of the front binding that has delammed. The rest of the ski is fine. The white cracky looking thing is a cobweb. The ski is not damaged.

Get some "real" epoxy resin, not the polyester or vinyl resins. The real epoxy will create the best bond and then of course clamp to keep shape. Probably a bad gluing at factory. Love the graphite Kevlar designation in front of forward boot.

Are you trying to repair the ski so u can ski on it, or to use it as a decoration?

I have used epoxy putty from Lowes/HD to rebuild a cracked ski. 5 years later, still perfect. Just pushed it into the grooves, gave it 5 minutes to set, sanded it down and covered it with a little dark paint to blend it. You almost couldn't see the repair unless I showed it to you. This was for a CDX with a tail crushed in shipping.

^^possibly both (@tx). It's an object that represents fun times in our family history, so it'd make a good decoration. It'd also be fun to ski on it now and then.

I would go with the epoxy injected into the de-laminated area and clamping. When's the last time you skied on it? Glue may be weakened brittle and that the nose flexing thru the wake may stress it more. but that is just my .02

It hasn't been skied on in more than twenty years to my knowledge. Maybe the whole thing will fall apart lol.

The reason I asked was that I don’t think I would ever ski on a ski that had been cracked... The risk of it failing again and risking major injury would be too much for me. I’d use it as a decoration only. Just my .02 cents

Naw it isn't cracked. Just the top is delammed from the base. I don't think I'd be brave enough to ski it either if it had been cracked!

Well we're all primed to work on it, but it is so cold here (salinas, ca) that it'll mess with the resin cook off times too much. And can't do it inside bc of the health hazard to the little kids in the house. Lol.
