I have always like to bring something no one would want that the receiver would bring the next year, etc. How about an old pair of bindings, broken rope, worn out orange life vest? Something no one would want but everyone would laugh about.

I did that one year, although I was wearing boxers, a carhartt, and no shoes while holding my browning shotgun with the quote "All My Love."

and winner. Found a skanked up womens cheap overtons vest that had been molding up in the garage. Looks pretty good with a bow on it. If you want that autographed picture shoot me your addy and I'll try to make it one of my less arousing photos.

I just got 4 boxes of screws - 1 pound boxes - so 4 pounds which is about $22 - different size dryall screws. You can basically say "you got screwed", but, it's a good gift - nobody would turn it down.
