in the FWIW department: BoatTest.com tested a new SN 200 with 343 horsepower, came out with top speed of 42.6 mph. Makes me feel pretty darn good that my 23 year old TriStar with 240 HP runs just as fast.

I expected a vid of the boat running, not an Offspring lyrics video? |

I am going to upgrade the heads/cam/intake to get the extra hp I need. I am about 200lbs and I can't achieve the speeds I want when I use the boom.
Is $1500-$2000 engine overhaul a reasonable amount? I'm going to use my sign-on bonus to fund this little project, and I can't think of a better way to use the money!! I use a 13x12.5 prop right now and it gets 39-40mph @ 4600 rpm. When I had the 13x13 prop I could get 42-43 mph @ 4600, but I had no hold power when footing. I want hold power. |

You need to define "engine overhaul" in order for us to answer that question. If youre just talking about top end upgrades (heads/cam/intake/etc) then yes, you can get that done for ~$1500 if you select the proper parts. A rebuild of the bottom end would be more.
If you lost 3+ mph of performance with a prop change, Id consider swapping that out first. You'll need to be more specific about which props youve tried, as diameter and pitch wont give us the full story. Brand, style, blade count, etc all matter. If you have a manufacturer and model number, that would be helpful.
