No water to engine?
boat was over heating so i took the thermostat out. no water is getting to the housing. so i check the raw pump its fine. and the pipes are clear through from the strainer to the pump (no clogs).
Any idea? |

What does your impeller look like? That's what pulls the water into the engine.

How old is the raw water pump impeller? If you don't remember when it was installed, change it. You checked/cleaned the oil cooler, right?

impeller is 2 months. oil cooler is clean

are you getting a good seal at the strainer? None problem if seal is not good...

Check valve on the hull fitting open? I managed to bump mine partially closed while cleaning the bilge one year. Drove me crazy trying to figure out why the boat was running warm until I stumbled across it while tracing the flow back to the source.

Look in the thermostat housing cover- the hole forward of the thermostat location may have a chunk of impeller stuck in it. I have seen this on several engines that were overheating.

Looking at your picture, I would replace those rusted thermostat bolts.
New SS at Lowes or whatever. Shearing one of those can make for a bad day.

Raw water pump has a specific direction that it has to be replaced after removal.
