Carpet

Anyone have have sneaky tricks or brilliant products to keeping you carpet soft and Brand new?

Also do you vacuum your carpet 'with the grain' or against it so it stands up?

My 08s carpet had just started to go a little hard and I guess would be best way to describe it,

I believe I read on here that some actually use a little bit of fabric softner when they wash their carpet before the first outing of the year. I've never tried it but it sounds plausible.

I used to use the Rug Dr. on my 197 with just water, no detergent.
