Use new construction primer for your new drywall. The other stuff is more suited for cover up of existing paint.

And DON'T use ceiling paint!!!!!!!!! That stuff is useless if you need to cover anything that contrasts with the color. I'm not even sure it has any pigment. I used it once and will never do it again. Total waste of time and money.

The the opinion seems to be that I should not bother painting the ceilings if they are a knock-down texture or am I incorrect in thinking this/wishful thinking?

If you prime before the texture goes on, you would be able to remove the texture later, with minimal "leftover" material. If you leave the drywall bare and the air's humidity reaches extreme levels, the drywall weakens, experiences dimensional changes and if it's like that Chinese crap that the US was glutted with, it promotes mold growth.

Personally, if I had a whole house to paint and it was larger (AND I had a lot of other stuff that needed my attention), I would spray it and be done. Having someone to follow with a roller makes it go a lot faster.

Around hear we always paint knockdown. I really try to shy away from any texture personally as its just a pain if you have a repair. But I do whatever the customer wants. In my experience any textured ceiling that is not painted tends to be dusty also.

Clarify.....wall board w/o plaster or do you have it plastered?

Ditto on asking the paint shop for advice....go to a paint store not a big box store

Have the paint shop tint the primer to match what you are painting over the top of it.

I like the idea of saving the money and putting a tower on and believe me, that is always in the back of my mind. Got a lot of things to spend money on right now and just hoping to save enough in doing some of the items ourselves to be able to buy that long awaited mini-tower for this season!!!
