Ilmor 5.7L Versus the 6.0L
So I have the Ilmor 5.7L in my 2012 X-30 It has done me very well and I have been very impressed with it's performance on such a big boat. Overall not a complaint. Pushed the boat with wieght no problem.
My question is whether anyone has actually compared the same 2012 boat with both a 5.7L and the 6.0L and if they found a significant difference. I know how much difference the prop will make and we have the low alt prop, but I was wondering what the real world feedback is on the differences between these two engines. We use the boat for mostly wakeboarding with as much weight as possible (usually around 2500lbs +). My dealer has been awesome to work with and we are looking at 2013's ![]() Also is there any ACTUAL difference in fuel consumption?

If it was me, I would either stick with the 5.7l, or shell out the coin for the 6.2l. The 6.2l is gonna save you money on fuel, but it would take years and years to make up the difference. In the meantime, you would enjoy a lot more power
![]() The 6.0 doesnt offer enough advantage IMO, and it doesnt have a very flat torque curve. If you were happy with the 5.7l, stay with it. Between the 5.7 and 6.0, i don't think there is a lot of difference, maybe a little more fuel in the 6.0. The 6.2l, from what we have experienced and heard, will save about 2GPH compared to the other two. Last edited by FourFourty; 10-30-2012 at 06:05 PM. |

FYI I'm thinking same thing, I had 6.0 in my 25 and re-propped and never had issues with 2500-plus extra, but am thinking 6.2L as well for my 2013, if only I could decide which boat to buy...

X-25 versus X-30? Thats a tough decision. Really tough. Both are such great boats. Just great boats. I actually really like the wakeboard wake on my X-30, especially with more weight. Its very consistent even in rougher water and can be ridden slow too. It is going to be a great boat as my kids grow up and start riding (4 and 6, just started wakeboarding this year). Surf wave is, well, as good as they say and it can even be skied. Handles like a dream and has tons of storage. Oh and the Xstar seat. But the X-25 is pretty much equal in all areas and has probably a bit better stock wakeboard wake. Tough call.
So you had the 6.0, how did you like it? Kind of a stupid question i guess as most people will say they like it. We'll see I guess. FWIW, the staff at MMS have been nothing short of excellent. They have gone above and beyond to take care of me as a customer. Not many companies or dealers go that extra mile like they have. |

Ya I don't know.... I wouldn't be going from an X-25 to an older X-Star, especially an X-25 as sweet as yours unless I needed the money. While the wake has potential to get bigger with lots of weight on an X-star, to a beginner to intermediate rider, there will be NO advantage to the older Xstar over the X-25, and the stock wake is probably better on the 25. What you lose is the extra storage, cabin space (biggest deal to me), nicer interior and tower (I don't love the 4 point towers and hate how MC had those gaudy connectors for the speakers on the outside of the tower, but the ZFT4 is my favorite tower for sure), surf wave, etc....
Of course the Xstar is an amazing boat but for a family, I think there are many choices that work. With that said, when you get your Star can I come ride it with an extra 3-4k ![]()
