Hey, team talk. Have just finished restoring the 1992 Prostar 205 with a 351 Windsor. The stared needed replacing, gone are the days of recos's. I picked up up a reduction drive powerstar 9604, which has an aluminum base plate and fully adjustable position 360 degree. Anyone put one of these on their boat, it has the remote solenoid so wiring is ok, the offset is 3/8 and has 11 teeth. Any experience appreciated. Thx in advance Brad.

If its not marine approved you could blow up your boat, other than that sounds like a nice addition.
Seriously you need to be safe on the water, one spark from that thing with enough vapor in the engine compartment and Boom. JTR

Marine approved starter motor for PS205
Thanks JTR, I have looked on their web site for marine approval and it doesn't mention it - so have sent them an email. The unit itself is all sealed, no gaps in body and o rings in the end, it one of the best I have seen. Do you know does the marine approval ? I am based in Oz and there isn't as much of a focus on this as there should be.
See the pic and more details of the unit for all at TT to comment. The unit is smaller and more powerful. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pwm-9604/overview/ thanks Brad. |

For comparison, here is a link of the a similar starter that is (not specified here) sold as a marine application. http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=RK122014 These smaller yet adequate starters are nice to work with and provide a better start, compared to the older starters. .
