Fooling around with the laser cutter
I've got a laser cutter in my classroom and was messing around with acrylic...
This one was etched from behind. The top surface is still untouched. This one was etched from the top- you can see a reflection of the text on the black desk. It wasn't until I'd started etching that I realized I'd goofed on the text. Only the M and C are supposed to be capitals. Oh well, I'll remember the next time I decide to do something like this. I think they still look OK tho. ![]() Ideas for other MasterCraft related projects? Greg |

I've realized there are some problems- the laser is only a 50W, and while the etching is easy, using 7/16" acrylic, it takes quite a while to burn through. After about 120 passes at various speeds and power settings, I got frustrated with it and just snapped the 'edges' off, then finished them on the mill. They still look pretty good, but it's a pain to try to get rounded corners. I'll just have to be happy with square corners.

Tags for vehicles. Not sure I follow. If you can describe what you're thinking/post a sketch, I'll see if I can work something up.

maybe a license plate cover? The etchings would need to be lower. Could go on the trailer or the tow vehicle.
If you could bend one....and etch a MC Shield you could potentially sell replacement Blower covers. You could make smaller Circles and use them as inserts in cup holders (lit via LEDs with the shield etched) hmm you could etch a shield on a larger piece that you would hinge and use as a wind screen door (in place of the fabric door that snaps in) and.....that's all the ideas I have for now. |

Like a lisence plate, have you seen the Chevy Bowie plates? What I'm thinking is just etched in the backside of the acrylic on a piece lisence plate size and then paint or vinyl the backside for colors.. Would look similar to your picture on the black desk.. But smaller

what about using dual layer black/white acrylic for the dash panels on the older boats?
