Just put it on a drill on high speed and use light to moderate pressure, shouldn't have to worry about harming the gel coat with it.. and once you've used it on your boat you know how to use it on vehicles to remove 4x4 stickers or trim residue etc.. The gel coat is more forgiving than automotive paint so you'll be ok. Just remember to keep it moving along the gel coat, don't sit and hold it in one spot
