Those who restored boats sitting for a while... what did you do about the gas?
I am picking up a 1983 Stars and Stripes friday that has been sitting for 10 or so years. I have been told that there is still gas in the tank and I have no idea how much. What is the best plan of attack for this? Put a bunch of additive in and have several fuel filters available? Syphon gas out? Any help would be appreciated. I will post pictures of the boat once I get my grimy hand on it. Should be a fun project.

Get rid of it... siphon it out and dump it.

That is what I was leaning towards. Thanks for the opinions. Now I just have to hope there is not all that much gas in the darn thing.

In MN the county run hazardous waste collection center accepts it. I would assume you must have a similar agency in your side of the country.

Typically i would call it lawnmower gas, at this point empty it. Might consider pulling the tank for a full clean as well.

I would definitely dispose of 10 year old gas, as well as do a thorough cleaning of the tank and replacement of the fuel tank to fuel pump line.

After 10 years the tank will have all sorts of varnish and particulates in the bottom of the tank... time for a fish boil... but a careful fish boil..
