1989 Tristar 190 Exhaust replacement

Longtime listener first time caller. I have a leak in my exhaust that is pretty large. I am looking at replacing and have the old silent master and have seen alot of other posts on the subject but am still not sure which route to go. I am not sure if I can get the mufflers reglassed as I have seen in other posts so I am thinking about replacing them both (only one leaking). Skidim suggested 0912 http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=288-3001 that looks alot different that what is on there. They did say I may have to cut the exhaust black tubes which seems pretty thick and rigid.
1) would it be better to replace with new both sides?
2) anyone already replaced with the mufflers skidim suggested and are they a good solution?
3) do I need to take off the exhaust risers to replace them either way? Seems like its pretty tight and they dont have much flex if at all to even get them out?

No direct experience, but I trust skidim completely.

i just recently pulled mine out ,it was a bit tuff. i did not remove the risers. mine had a broken
baffle inside it so i cut my muffler open .took out the loose pieces .and glassed it back together.
no leak .it is very easy to reglass them , if you loosen all the hose clamps you can wiggle them around till they come out . it is easier if you can pull out the through hull exhaust flange also

it would probably be easier if you just popped the riser off now that i think about it ,i did not because i was being cheap and did not want to replace the riser gaskets. i propbably also should of replaced my muffs to they are still the silent master ones also , but again i was on a budget and i had the glass and resin kicking around . so the repair's only cost was my time.

Friend of mine reglassed a hole in one of his at the beginning of the season and it cured the leak.

No biggy. Remove your muffler, and inspect. Drain it. Shake it. (to determine, if baffle is broken.) If not, re-glass. Buy fiberglass kit, at any auto supply shop. Follow directions.

As to muffler replacement. I have those muffers, on my 205. Luckily, you have plenty of exhaust tube. Measure twice, if doesn't stretch. Cut with hack saw. Expect, your exhaust to be slightly louder.

I'm always reluctant to split the riser and manifold. Seems they sometimes leak when I reinstall, no matter how well I prep. Something to consider....

thanks for the advice.... I may wait until I pull it out and garage it for the winter and decide which route I will go.. I kinda like the sch 40 PVC pipe..I may be the next before and after tristar story, just not sure how much money I want to throw at it..

for sure glass over the hole..i had a few leaks in mine and 25 bucks and 45 minutes later all done. super easy and stringer than new

Same here. I found a small leak in one of my mufflers and it was right on top. Didn't even have to turn a screw to fix it. Got a patch kit at Autozone and it's been fine for years.

Thanks Again..after reading this I remembered I had some PC-11 epoxy that I tried gonna let it dry and see if that will hold..The crack is at a funny spot right on the ridge when the muffller decreases in size towards the rear so hopefully it will hold up if not I will wait until its in the garage for the winter..
