Remove painted on registration stickers?!

Hi all. We just bought a 2000 Prostar 205V and moved it from CA to OR. The CA registration numbers are actually painted on the boat, and we are having trouble getting them off. The local dealer suggested trying acetone, but it is not doing anything. Has anyone had to deal with this? I bought a polisher to work on some gel coat fading in other areas. Is my best bet to try to polish it off? Any suggestions?

Edit - I guess I should not have put 'stickers' in the title. They are not stickers.

Thanks!
Mike

Pic

Here is the boat.. The registration numbers are cut off in the pic but you can kind of see the beginning of them.

Easy off oven cleaner. Be sure to protect the trailer and wax when you are done.

My boat had them painted on as well. Took it to a local boat repair shop and they sanded them off, polished and it was perfect. Best part was it cost $30. Done in 25 minutes.
