Replacing an Indmar 351 with a commander?

Long story short, I have a cracked block on my indmar 351. I was planning to go with a new block from rapido. However,a guy I know has a friend with a complete from top to bottom commander 351 rebuilt by a local marina that he never installed and has been setting in his garage for 2 years. He was asking $750 for it as that's what the rebuild costed but said he just wants it gone for $500. Is it gonna jive or is it more of a headache than its worth? I appreciate any input.

Sorry I cant upload a picture, if I had to guess it looks like it can from an early 80's nautique so I'm not sure if its a LH or RH at this point.

My old 85 Ski Centurion had the Commander in it. It was paired with a velvet drive trans and was LH. It was a good engine. Had factory aluminum exhaust manifolds on it.

From what I remember the Commander and the PCM were compatible as far as parts went for the most part. Vince at Discount told me that when I was trying to track parts down for mine many years ago.

If it were by chance a RH motor could I get a new tranny to reverse it to LH? He had said it was from a nautique and from what I've read some of their earlier motors were in fact RH, rather than a reduction transmission I believe they called it to change its rotation in the later models.

Use the base 351w long block if its a lh rotation and reuse the indmar accessories and call it done.
