Ballast overflows

Getting ready to head to Asia for a bit so unfortunately have to start thinking about the dreaded W word. First year having my 2009 X30. Does each tank have a separate overflow or do some share? Is the pick up shared with the main one for the engine. I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to get antifreeze in the pumps/tanks. I saw one picture of it being dumped in an overflow. I guess if you did that and the pumped some out it would do the trick?

One added question. Always heard the engine needed to be running at a certain speed to operate ballast pumps. When winterizing do you guys do it without the main engine running?

The pickup for the ballast is separate that that for the engine. The reason go getting the boat up to 1500 rpms is in order to have the pumps operating to their full potential. For just sucking antif freeze there is no need. You can do it two ways that I have seen used. Of course use the pink antifreeze that's sake for the environment.

1). Put antifreeze in 5 gallon bucket and use an old pice of hose and jam it in the intake and the pump will suck it in

2). Disconnect the hose from the tank. Put a gallon or two in each rear tank and hit the empty til it flows out.

3). This is the way most people I know do it by me. The pull the impellers for the winter and use a compressor or their mouth to blow on the lines. No antifreeze needed. But some Vaseline on the impellers and put them in a bag. Keeps them from drying out and keeps them lubed for next season. Also let's you inspect them to see if they may fail or have any busted veins.

There are three overflow vents one on the port side and two on the starboard side you will also see two additional overflow vents on the starboard side one aft and one next to the starboard ballast overflow they are for the bilge pumps
dumping antifreeze into the overflow will work well, probably the easiest way to accomplish it
no need to dump antifreeze into the bilge vents
and yes to the pink environmentally friendly antifreeze

Do the 09's not have a tee back bythe transom near the ballast manifold?
That's where I winterize the tanks from. Open that tee, put a funnel in it (long one), turn on a pump, dump AF in, repeat for the other 2 tanks, bump all 3 in reverse until AF comes out, done.
