Best method of purchasing

I am pretty new to the site and saw a few items that where interesting to buy but was wondering what the best method to purchase items that are listed on the classifieds buy/sell pages?
How can I be reasonably sure that I will receive an item after paying for it?

How do you pay for an item?

What should I look for to tell if the seller is trustworthy or not?

thanks

I used paypal when I sold a barefoot boom shipped to the east coast and cash when I bought a jl audio amp local, both from this forum. I guess I got lucky no issues with either transaction. I would suggest to actually talk on phone to feel out seller, you will never get a spammer on the phone so a conservation is a good sign of being legit.

I've always used paypal and never had any issues. I like to think most people on this site are honest with a common interest but talking to them on the phone is always smart. I also look at how long they have been a member and how many posts but newbies are always joining and sometimes just to sell something.... just trust your gut feeling after speaking with them and you can always request they email additional pics.

I'd start by looking at how many post the seller has and their profile to see how long they've been on the site. I personally haven't had an issue with anyone on this site to date. I've used PayPal and checks on both sides of a transaction with other members without a problem. I would have to say that I'm more comfortable with PayPal though.....

Ice sculpture shipped by horse and buggy...I will be happy to place said item in a large bucket to catch any fallen parts during shipping.

Sold! Check is in the mail! (Are those falling parts coming from the back of the horse?)
