95 LT-1 Questions/Issues

I have done a pile of searching and reading on here but still have a couple of questions

When I jump A & B my engine overheat light does not illuminate when I turn on the key
-is there a way to check the light for workingness (is that even a word?)
-I checked my transmission light and it works

My boat runs cold (140 or so on the gauge)
-I replaced both thermostats, put them in correct as far as I know), the impeller, capped off the heat tube and re-plumbed it at the front of the heads
-I did the heater mod with the Tee on the front of the water pump
-I checked the resistance of the sending unit for the ECM and it was 3520 last night and it was about 70 outside give or take

I find that my exhaust smells like unburnt gas as if the boat is running rich because it is not heating up enough

I recently tested both my tranny light and engine light by using aligator clips to a battery when I took the guages out to clean them up. They both worked this way, but they have never come on otherwise....

how do you test them with them hooked up?

Did you install a valve at the tee so you could shut your heater flow off? With the temp sensor for the gauge being a little farther out of the pump you might just see cooler temps from it.

I pulled the dash to see if I could have a look at the bulb. It is sealed though. I thought about a battery, but never did it.

When a person jumps the two wires on the transmission sensor it lights up, if I ground the wire going to the coolant sensor (there is only the one) will that light up the light?

I didn't install a valve at the tee (I wondered if that may be doing it) but then I thought that the water is flowing past the sensor at a good flow as it goes to the heat (unless that is the return port although I don't think so)

I am going to remove the T tonight and put the sensor back in it's original spot and see if that makes a difference

No, the temp sensor with only one wire is for the dash gauge only. If you ground the wire from that temp sensor it will peg the needle on the temp gauge but that's it. The check engine light on the dash is supposed to come from the ECM so that it will flash the codes when you do the paper clip procedure. I found on my '94 that the check engine light was miswired. Might want to trace where the two wires go.

So I should be able to jump the two wires on the plug then and the light should come on

I will have a look at that

It should flash the "12" code described in other posts and then any other codes if they have been stored by the ECM.

The light doesn't come on at all, that is the issue that I am having with it
