Just got my new x15. does anyone know how the factory mirror installs?

My 2008 x15 has a bracket on the tower and you just put the mirror arm into the bracket and there is a screw that holds it in. The mirror arm has two prongs that fit into the tower bracket. Mine does not connect to the windshield. The screw looks like a very small version of one of the tower screws that hold the tower arms. I would not throw mine in the dumpster.

For the money you spent I'd say yep, and you'll put it just exactly where I want it! And if I don't like it you'll move it!
