I demoed a 2012 65.5 Syndicate S2. I only got a few sets in but I liked the ski. The dealer is giving me an awesome price if I buy that demo ski. My concern is I'm 160-165lbs and the size chart says the ski is meant for 120-160lbs. According to the chart, the 66.5 is good for 150-190lbs. The ski felt good and I didn't have any problems getting up on it, but like I said I didn't have much time on it. So are there any advantages or disadvantages to riding a ski that is a little on the short side according to the chart? It's a good deal but I don't want to buy it if it's not going to be the right ski for me.

You will be happier, longer, with the larger ski.

I ordered my skies too short until the Kidder rep moved me up to a 68 from a 66. I am right at 200 lbs. and would never go small again. I ski at 36 mph. on a Radar 68" Strada.

This realy depends on what kind of a skier you are. If your a short line skier then the smaller ski might be a good choice because it will get on edge and create more angle at the ball. If your not a short line skier I would say you'll be happier on the larger ski. Its easier to get up on, its more foregiving and just easier to ride.

^^+1 also a larger ski is cause less fatigue....more surface are less drag on arms...what you do lose is corning ability. If your not competing you'll have a ton more fun on a longer ski.

S2 is a wider ski....you should be fine with the demo.

S2 is different than most skis. Are you skiing 36mph? If so...that ski is perfect for you.

If it feels good stay with the length...or is it causing fatigue to kick in early... I ski a 69" and I am 180lbs and I am pretty fit. I don't get to ski as often as I want so I have a wider ski so I can stay on the ski longer...even then when I go for a rhythmic imaginary slalom course with hard carving and working to stay on edge thru wake I get tired fairly quick. Just joy riding, I can go 3 times as long as carving hard and staying on edge... Too short a ski IMO will set your ski-tail in the water forcing your legs and arms to do more work... If you get to ski more often...go for the shorter ski...faster turns and acceleration..and more fun...
